Since getting my first film camera a couple months back, I’ve only brought it to shoots as a kind of bonus. It’s taken me some time to experiment and I’m still not totally confident with it. So as a challenge to myself, for this shoot I chose to leave my 5D behind and solely use my Canon AE-1. I limited myself to one roll of Portra 400 35mm film. Shooting film is obviously more work without the immediate gratification, but this process allowed me to focus on all the little details without shooting constantly and forced me to slow down and appreciate my subject and surroundings. I’m excited to share the results and plan to work more film into my upcoming projects.
